AMY
WINEHOUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH
The film
Amy (2015), by Asif Kapadia, is a kind of documentary about the life and
difficulties of English singer Amy Winehouse (1983-2011) with her mental
health. The documentary portrays the singer's genius with her wonderful voice,
the drama in her love and relationship with her parents, the difficulties she
faced with her career, addiction, fame and her premature death at the age of
27.
One point
that really impressed me in this account of her life was that in London, in the
year 2000, with all the financial resources and access that the singer had, she
did not find a psychic treatment that, instead of focusing on the symptom,
focused on the subject. She discussed her relationship with dating, the
difficulty she had in positioning herself in front of him. The issues with the
shows: how, when and where I would like them to be held and in what way. The
relationship with parents, with fame and with life.
We don't
know what it was like in reality, we discuss the film as an artistic process.
However, the documentary only presents treatments that try to contain the
symptom. Control her alcohol use, keep her away from her boyfriend and
scandals. She was 8 or 80. Or she was hospitalized, without access to family,
dating, work and alcohol. Or she stayed in her social environment taking
medication, but without continued psychological treatment. Without intervention
in your unconscious logic, your emotions. Impressive!
The Mental
Health Movement Café with Freud and Lacan proposes that we think about health
from the perspective of the subject. From the growth and development of each
unique human being, their unique desires and choices. So that they can follow
their style and way of life, positioning themselves in relation to family,
emotional and professional relationships with courage and dignity.
This is the
way to resolve the symptoms that are so popular in this century: anxiety, panic
syndrome, stress, burnout, depression. Let's take care of our mental health and
have a life with more love and achievements, sustaining the subject's
positioning in the face of the adversities and bifurcations that are presented.
Let's include and respect the emotional aspect more, listen to feelings and
thoughts, elaborate on them and thus be more empowered in our daily lives,
fight for our dreams and be able to stay close to who and what we love!
